DPD Germany is the first parcel service worldwide to use the open single sign-on service netID: the login via netID is now available in the DPD App as well as in myDPD.

In these applications the international parcel and express service provider DPD bundles numerous functionalities relating to sending, receiving and returning parcels.

As a partner to the European netID Foundation DPD is one of the first providers to offer netID to its customers and interested parties. Anyone with a netID account – for example with WEB.DE, GMX or 7PASS – can log into the digital services provided by DPD and all other netID partners without additional registration.

The open login standard netID focuses on the data sovereignty of each individual user and enables users to organise their accounts in a transparent and data protection-compliant manner at all times. Accordingly netID also regards itself as a reliable European alternative to US-dominated solutions.

In the DPD App and in myDPD registered users can pay online for the parcels they wish to ship within Germany and to other EU countries, use the digital parcel label to send off a shipment from a nearby Pickup parcelshop, or request the pickup of a parcel. All it now takes is a login with netID – without the time-consuming need for further registrations. In addition, the DPD App and myDPD provide registered users with further useful functions. For example, they can issue a permanent deposit okay online. Parcels are then automatically left at the desired location (e.g. in the garage or garden shed) when the consignee is not at home. Other individual preferences, such as redirecting parcels to a freely selectable nearby parcel shop, can also be arranged in this way.

Thanks to netID, parcel shipping with DPD is also more convenient because the user’s delivery data can be stored directly in the checkout if desired. With participating online retailers it is then no longer necessary for users to register in the shop or enter their address data. Very soon it will also be possible for logged-in netID users to switch from other websites to the DPD applications. One example is the integrated parcel tracking for the users of the online communication services GMX and WEB.DE. In the “intelligent mailbox” an AI-based algorithm automatically identifies all order-relevant emails, supplements them with tracking information from DPD and displays them in an easily understandable way. In future logged-in users will be able to switch to myDPD directly from their mailbox in order to manage their parcels there – to store individual preferences, for example.

netID: new login standard with strong partners

The European netID Foundation was founded in March 2018 by the media group RTL Deutschland, ProSiebenSat.1 and United Internet with the brands WEB.DE and GMX. The foundation’s goal is to establish netID as a single sign-on which offers a European alternative to those of US providers. With netID, users can organise their consent to the use of Internet services in a data protection-compliant and transparent manner in a privacy centre. Together the initiators of the foundation have more than 38 million active accounts. The European netID Foundation is very much open to further partners and other initiatives. The partners who already offer a login via the netID button include – in addition to retailers such as C&A and Calida – a number of media services such as Süddeutsche Zeitung, Kabel1 and merkur.de.

Award-winning customer experience: the DPD App

On Android and iOS DPD App users have access at all times to the company’s digital services for sending, receiving and returning parcels. The core element of DPD’s digital services is a delivery forecast which is accurate to one hour. In addition, consignees can use map-supported live tracking to check exactly how far away the delivery driver is. Thanks to this maximum transparency consignees are able to estimate with precision whether they will be at home when the delivery is due. If they won’t be at home they can simply postpone the delivery day – or choose an alternative delivery option. In this way DPD’s digital services offer the greatest possible flexibility: taking delivery of parcels can be easily integrated into the everyday routine of consignees. Further features such as a digital service rating or providing a tip for the delivery driver via PayPal round off the functionalities of the DPD App and myDPD. DPD has already received numerous awards for these digital services – 13 times in the last four years alone. DPD was among the winners of the Digital Leader Award, the German Design Award and, most recently, the German Excellence Prize in early 2019.

All the functions of the app are also available in the online portal myDPD. Both applications have a total of 26 million active users. 1.9 million users have already registered in order to store individual preferences for their parcel deliveries. The possibility of a digital service rating has been used 2.3 million times, with users providing an average of 4 out of 5 possible stars for DPD’s parcel shipping services.

Sanofi and GSK are in advanced discussions, with the European Commission (EC) for the supply of up to 300 million doses of a COVID-19 vaccine. The vaccine candidate developed by Sanofi in partnership with GSK, is based on the recombinant protein-based technology used by Sanofi to produce an influenza vaccine, and GSK’s established adjuvant technology. The doses would be manufactured in European countries including France, Belgium, Germany and Italy. This marks a key milestone in protecting and serving the European population against COVID-19.

“Today’s announcement helps to ensure that millions of Europeans will have access to a potential vaccine protecting against COVID-19, once proven safe and effective. It has been our steadfast commitment to provide a vaccine that is affordable and accessible to everyone, and we are grateful to the European Commission for their ongoing engagement and shared support of this effort,” said Thomas Triomphe, Executive Vice President and Global Head of Sanofi Pasteur. “Together with GSK, we are working relentlessly to develop and produce a vaccine to address this global health crisis.”

Sanofi is leading the clinical development and registration of the COVID-19 vaccine and expects a Phase 1/ 2 study to start in September, followed by a Phase 3 study by the end of 2020. If data are positive, regulatory approval could be achieved by the first half of 2021. In parallel, Sanofi and GSK are scaling up manufacturing of the antigen and adjuvant to produce up to one billion doses per year overall.

Sanofi and GSK are committed to making the vaccine available globally

Sanofi and GSK recently signed agreements with the United States where they have longstanding partnerships with the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority, and also with the UK Government. The partners  plan to provide a significant portion of total worldwide available supply capacity in 2021/22 to the global initiative “Access to COVID‐19 Tools Accelerator,” a global collaboration of leaders of governments, global health organizations, businesses and philanthropies to accelerate development, production, and equitable access to COVID-19 tests, treatments, and vaccines.

On the front lines in the fight against COVID-19

In addition to the recombinant protein-based vaccine in collaboration with GSK, Sanofi is also developing a messenger RNA vaccine candidate in partnership with Translate Bio. With several innovative vaccine platforms currently investigated across the industry, mRNA is considered among the most promising. Sanofi expects a Phase 1 study to start by the end of the year, and, if data are positive, an approval at the earliest in the second half of 2021. Translate Bio has established mRNA manufacturing capacity and Sanofi expects to be able to supply annual capacity of 90 to 360 million doses.

DB Schenker successfully started operation of a globally leading regional hub for automated high-speed logistics. Worth 101 million euros, the Red Lion warehouse in Singapore is the single largest investment in any site globally in Schenker’s corporate history.

Strategically located in the Airport Logistics Park of Singapore at Changi Airport, the site sets a new standard in combining the world’s most advanced technological developments with the highest levels of sustainable warehouse management for its customers. With the opening, DB Schenker reinforces its commitment to the city state as the booming gateway to the Asia Pacific region and celebrates its 50th anniversary in the “Lion City”.

Red Lion solidifies Schenker’s position in Singapore as the largest and most advanced third-party logistics provider in the ALPS. Combined, the mechanized air freight hub and contract logistics warehouse extend over 51,400 square meters on five floors, equal to the size of seven soccer fields. A next generation Warehouse Management System and a synchronized IT platform bridging the various automations enable Red Lion to increase warehouse productivity by up to 100% compared to manual processes, and to reduce lead time for customers by 40% compared to non-integrated facilities.

Incoming freight is processed through a ball deck, which increases speed and eases handling. Pallet lifters then move freight to the automated warehouse with Very Narrow Aisles to optimize capacity. The multi-shuttle and carton live storage systems are complemented by Goods-to-Person and Pick-To-Light technologies, conveyor systems, and Automated Guided Vehicles.

Red Lion is also the first warehouse to offer an in-house designed roboticlabeling system, which utilizes 3D-vision technology and three robotic arms to apply labels in multiple languages on products of varying sizes, shapes, and configurations.

Moreover, the building recognizes Schenker’s commitment to promote sustainable development and environmental protection. 1,440 photovoltaic solar panels, along with other sustainability features, enable energy savings of 34%. Thus, Red Lion is certified with the Green Mark Platinum label by the Building and Construction Authority in Singapore as well as the LEED Gold Standard.

Schenker’s first branch in Singapore was set up in 1970. Since then, the business has seen tremendous growth, with the number of locations in the city state rising to 13, including DB Schenker’s regional head office for APAC.
