FTA, the business organisation representing the logistics sector, has launched #LogisticsHelpsLogistics, a social media campaign to help businesses keep goods and services flowing, by filling shortfalls of staff or identifying vehicles with capacity during the COVID-19 pandemic. By posting jobs or requirements for support on social media, using the campaign hashtag, more than 150,000 logistics workers and business owners have already engaged with the campaign on social media; more than 831,000 individuals in the sector have already been reached in the first five days of the campaign.

Elizabeth de Jong, Policy Director at FTA, comments: “The British public is relying on the logistics sector to keep supermarkets and other essential retailers stocked with food, medicines, hygiene products and other basic items throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as keeping loads moving for industry. As such, we are determined to do everything possible to keep goods moving across the UK. Through the #LogisticsHelpsLogistics campaign, FTA is linking businesses in need of logistics staff with available workers. I would like to encourage everyone to get involved in the campaign – whether it is just by retweeting or sharing content – so we can work together as an industry to navigate the challenging times ahead.”

#LogisticsHelpsLogistics is supported by the Department for Transport and the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport. If a business requires drivers, warehouse operators or transport managers, they should post their vacancies using the hashtag; similarly, anyone looking for work should use the hashtag to advertise their availability.

Please search for the hashtag #LogisticsHelpsLogistics on your preferred social media platform – Twitter, Facebook or LinkedIn – for more information and to get started.

Efficient logistics is vital to keep the UK trading, directly having an impact on more than seven million people employed in the making, selling and moving of goods. With Brexit, new technology and other disruptive forces driving change in the way goods move across borders and through the supply chain, logistics has never been more important to UK plc. FTA is one of the biggest business groups in the UK, supporting, shaping and standing up for safe and efficient logistics. We are the only business group in the UK that represents all of logistics, with members from the road, rail, sea and air industries, as well as the buyers of freight services such as retailers and manufacturers whose businesses depend on the efficient movement of goods.

Pilot Freight Services, a worldwide provider of transportation and logistics services, now has immediate availability in multi-client warehouses in Chicago, Columbus, Orlando and Salt Lake City to meet retailer and e-commerce product storage and forward staging needs.

As a result of store closures, retailers have a growing need to warehouse unsold products as well as ship and introduce new seasonal goods. Pilot’s multi-client warehouse stations are strategically located to major population centers and position goods closer to customers.

Pilot’s multi-client warehouses enable clients to move product efficiently through the company’s extensive ground transportation network closer to retail locations where the goods will be sold as well as position e-commerce freight in advantageous locations to shorten home delivery time.

Pilot operates eight multi-client warehouses throughout the country which offer client-focused flexible storage solutions and can accommodate 20 to 10,000 pallets or more without a minimum timeframe commitment. Pilot’s warehouse management system technology provides complete transparency for remote inventory control.

“We’re adapting Pilot’s existing services to meet our clients’ unique needs during this uncertain time. Our goal is to provide transparency and help generate cashflow faster by storing and staging our clients’ products closer to retailers and consumers,” explains John Hill, president and chief commercial officer.

As states begin to adjust restrictions over the coming weeks, retailers and e-commerce companies are shifting inventory to adapt to curbside pick-up, shifts in demand for seasonal products as well as up-ticks in home delivery for outdoor goods. Pilot’s warehousing and inventory management solutions provide tailored systems to ship goods to final destinations saving time and money while providing transparency every step of the way.

CEVA Logistics has designed an innovative Truck-Rail-Truck (TRT) solution to keep customers’ freight moving across Asia during the COVID-19 crisis.

Prevents long waits at border crossings

China and the Southeast Asian region are facing flight suspensions and reductions, space limits and operational restrictions in addition to long waits at border crossings due to the COVID-19 pandemic. CEVA Logistics introduced TRT as a practical and innovative multi-modal transport solution to remedy these issues. Several CEVA technology customers have already taken advantage of it to keep their cargo moving over the last month.

Export documentation requirements for the TRT service are the same as an all-trucked service and Customs clearance can be achieved within three hours.

Saves four days on current transit times

The China-Vietnam road border crossing point between Pingxiang and Lang Son currently suffers from backlogs of 2-4 days. To avoid this, shipments are picked up by CEVA across South and East China and loaded into 45’ hi-cube (HQ) containers.

They are taken by truck to the cross-border train – which operates three times a day – and into Vietnam, where they are then unloaded onto trucks and delivered to final destination.  Shipments bound for Thailand which were taking up to 8 days are now arriving in 3-4 days. The new service is also being used by CEVA customers in Vietnam, Malaysia and Singapore.

Says Guillaume Col, CEVA Logistics’ Chief Operating Officer: “With our TRT solution, serious traffic jams at the border crossings can be avoided. During the COVID-19 pandemic, it really is the best solution for customers wishing to move urgent shipments between China and Southeast Asia. As a pioneer in TRT service, we will keep exploring our Road & Rail network between China and Southeast Asia to further develop these services.”

Einride, a Swedish technology company that designs and develops technology for freight mobility, announced that it will be partnering with Oatly, the original oat drink company, to transition to a sustainable transport solution with all-electric vehicles in the Swedish market. The partnership will commence in Q4 of 2020 in Sweden, making Oatly one of the world’s first companies to electrify transportation on commercial routes.

With electric trucks, Einride will support the transport of Oatly’s finished oat-based products from their production facilities in Sweden, to intermediate destinations within the market. Oatly will also make use of the Einride Freight Mobility Platform to track and manage shipments in real time, visualize shipping volume, distance driven, and associated emissions to reduce future costs and carbon impact from shipments.

Oatly is known around the world for challenging the food industry and driving necessary change toward more sustainable food consumption and production.

“Sustainability is at the core of everything we do and we are committed to driving change across the food industry through embracing new sustainable solutions in every area of our business. Electrical transportation is a key part of our Supply Chain strategy globally and on these routes, we will be reducing our carbon footprint by 87 percent. So naturally we are super-excited at exploring this new opportunity with Einride” says Simon Broadbent, Supply Chain Director at Oatly.

As a leader in the transition to smart, electrified, and autonomous freight mobility, Einride shares the same values of challenging the status quo to create a more sustainable world, making the partnership a perfect fit.

“Road freight transport as it currently exists is a system that drastically needs to change. Nearly 7 percent of global CO2 emissions come from this road freight, a figure that will only increase if we do not switch to more sustainable solutions like Einride’s Freight Mobility Platform, which enables both a sustainable business and environment. We are proud to grow our intelligent movement alongside Oatly, a pioneer in sustainable food production,” says Robert Falck, CEO and Founder of Einride.
