2019 was a watershed year for digitisation in freight. The acceleration in adoption was clear to see, with all the major players ramping up efforts as well as starting to see returns on their digital programs. As we follow into 2020 amplified by the Covid Pandemic ,freight digitisation has never been so important. World class digital tools are no longer a nice to have but a customer requirement, as well as a driver of reducing the cost to serve.

Kontainers and PLS have become two globally respected FreightTech brands with a track record for delivery for many of the Top 20 global freight brands. Rate Management and Digital front ends are both critical tools in the current climate as well as being highly complimentary. Both companies have invested significantly in their API capabilities and intend to make it simple for Freight Forwarders to adopt both solutions in one engagement.

Freight forwarders are faced with a multitude of digital offerings however in 2020 none are as mission critical as customer facing and rate management solutions. Being able to access a joint Kontainers PLS solution in one will simplify purchasing decision’s and drastically speed up time to market.

GEODIS is providing LabMed with customs brokerage, short-term storage solutions and transport management services from LabMed’s factory in China via a distribution hub in Singapore to a wide array of international destinations including India, Malaysia, Germany and the United States.

“In terms of fulfilling our multi-faceted needs, GEODIS has been well up to the task,” says Wilson Ang, LabMed’s Regional Managing Director in Singapore. “The close attention and efficiency of the GEODIS staff has been impressive, from the local service in China to the performance at our many destinations.”

The partnership between LabMed, a family owned subsidiary of Kin Seng Hong Pte, and GEODIS began in early May 2020, with the immediate need to swiftly react to fast-changing market demands and devising flexible end-to-end supply chain solutions. LabMed has been called upon to significantly increase its production of surgical masks, sanitising gel and other PPE at its own plant in Dong Guan, Southern China.

From initial small shipments of 10 tons of sanitizer to India to bulk supplies of millions of masks to Germany, LabMed’s pipeline of PPE has grown rapidly to include other parts of South-East Asia, Europe, Latin America and the United States.

Hellmann Worldwide Logistics announced the rollout of CargoWise, the integrated single-platform logistics solution of WiseTech Global. The new Transport Management System will be implemented for all Air and Sea freight operations across the global Hellmann network.

Hellmann, the globally active logistics service provider, will implement CargoWise to enhance operational processes within its global Air and Sea freight operations by standardizing systems and databases and enabling more efficient resource usage across the entire supply chain.

In addition, the integration of CargoWise with Hellmann’s customer facing solutions further optimizes customer experience by allowing for an automated and transparent information exchange with clients around the globe. Following the completion of a pilot phase, Hellmann will implement CargoWise across 42 countries including the US, Australia, Germany, the UK, India, South Korea, South Africa and Hong Kong.

Tigers expands into new Rotterdam warehouse to support customers growing e-commerce business across Europe

Supply chain specialist Tigers has expanded into a newly-built 50,000m2 omnichannel fulfilment facility in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, offering sustainable e-commerce products and low-cost last mile B2B and B2C solutions across Europe.

The carbon neutral warehouse has 60,000 pallet positions, 550,000 bin locations, and has been equipped with solar panels and energy-efficient LED lighting.

The hub’s proximity to the city of Rotterdam means that Tigers employees can travel to work by public transport or by cycling.

The omnichannel fulfilment set up, which is powered by Tigers SmartHub:Connect freight, e-commerce, and logistics portal, is benefitting customers gearing up to deliver growing demand in the B2C e-commerce market.

“We are seeing explosive growth in our B2C business, whilst B2B volumes have reduced during the lockdown,” said Shahar Ayash, Tigers’ Regional Managing Director, Europe.

“We can help customers explore new ways of moving quickly into B2C, even if they are set up only for the B2B market.

“Companies need to be innovative to keep supply chains moving and to ensure that the ever-increasing demand for e-commerce deliveries can be met in an efficient and environmentally-friendly way.

“Our new Rotterdam hub offers customers the space they need to grow organically and the tools and technology to do just that.”

Tigers, which has had a Rotterdam base for over 20 years, offers dedicated account management at the new mega hub, as well as turnkey e-commerce platform integrations, fiscal representation, and duty reporting in compliance with European law.

The new facility, located 10km from the Port of Rotterdam, is road and rail-connected and is part of the ongoing expansion of Tigers’ e-commerce fulfilment business.

To cater for the growing e-commerce market, Tigers has recently opened several new omni-channel facilities including one in Sydney, Australia, and another in Johannesburg,South Africa.

E-commerce already represents over 50% of Tigers’ business in Rotterdam, a key European hub for the Hong Kong-headquartered logistics operator.
