The Körber Group continues to invest in its Business Area Logistics Systems, acquiring a majority stake in Brazil-based Otimis Ltda. The supply chain management software and consulting company grows and strengthens warehousing and logistics operations for customers across the globe.

In light of advances in technology and digitization of supply chain processes, companies are looking for supply chain technology partners that can service them on a global basis. To address this market demand for global providers, Körber Logistics Systems has extended its service and support capabilities into Latin America with addition of Otimis. Otimis extends Körber’s existing customer service capabilities in North America, Europe and the Asia Pacific region.

Otimis has been an implementation partner and reseller of the supply chain management solutions of Körber Logistics’ company HighJump since 2004. By joining Körber, Otimis now has access to a complete portfolio of supply chain technologies including supply chain management software, industrial voice solutions, autonomous mobile robotics (AMR) and material handling automation.

Otimis has locations in Blumenau and São Paulo, Brazil and Santiago, Chile, with plans for expansion in Mexico. This follows Körber’s recent acquisition of the majority stake in the Cohesio Group, the leading integrator of voice-directed and AMR solutions for logistics in APAC.

“This is a further component of our successful internationalization strategy,” says Stephan Seifert, Chairman of the Executive Board of Körber AG. “With Otimis, we have an ideal basis for further growth in Latin America and for offering our customers market-leading logistics solutions”.

“The trusted and successful cooperation that has grown over the years between HighJump and Otimis has encouraged us to take the next step – bringing Otimis under the Körber umbrella,” adds Dirk Hejnal, CEO of the Business Area Logistics Systems. “Essentially a beachhead in the region, the addition of Otimis to Körber Logistics empowers us, along with companies worldwide, with another means to think globally, while executing locally”.

Hélcio Lenz, founder and CEO of Otimis, says: “Our local roots coupled with the strength of the global Körber network are ideal prerequisites for sustainable growth for us and our customers. The entire Otimis team and I look forward to being part of Körber and shaping the supply chain of the future together”.

Convoy and KeepTruckin partner on freight visibility integration

Convoy, the nation’s most efficient digital freight network, and KeepTruckin, the leader in fleet management technology, today announced a new technology partnership to help carriers simplify daily tasks and grow their businesses.

Convoy will integrate with KeepTruckin’s freight visibility API to access location data for en-route shipments—generated by consenting carriers in its network who use KeepTruckin’s Electronic Logging Devices (ELDs)—to provide additional visibility and eliminate the need for additional driver check-in calls. Carriers will have total control and must consent for their data to be shared between the two companies.

Convoy relies on its industry leading mobile app to track the location of a load. Carriers on a Convoy shipment turn on their mobile app prior to pick up, enabling GPS to identify their location throughout the trip and communicate progress towards an on-time delivery.

However, if the carrier’s mobile phone loses battery or if they enter an area with poor cell reception, GPS is unable to send precise location information to Convoy’s platform, requiring check-ins with the carrier to confirm the estimated arrival time.

Convoy and KeepTruckin’s freight visibility integration will provide a secondary location proof point to augment Convoy’s shipment tracking capabilities, using data from the carrier’s KeepTruckin ELD.

As a result, carriers in Convoy’s network who consent to share KeepTruckin data with Convoy will benefit from enhanced shipment tracking— eliminating check-in calls, and gaining the ability to manage their Convoy integration easily through the KeepTruckin platform.

This partnership also lowers costs for carriers by offering a 15% discount on KeepTruckin’s ELDs and other fleet management technology. KeepTruckin’s Electronic Logbook App and ELD system have more than half a million users nationwide. When compared to other fleet management vendors, carriers can use the newly offered discount to save up to $1,000 per year on each truck in their fleet.

“We are excited to kick off a strategic, multifaceted partnership with a fellow industry leader in KeepTruckin, starting with the integration of their freight visibility API and offering discounts on critical fleet management products,” said Brooks McMahon, VP of Partnerships at Convoy. “Ensuring carriers in our network have access to high-quality ELD devices, and powerful fleet management tools at reasonable pricing is core to our commitment to help carriers earn more with less hassle.”

“At KeepTruckin, we have a relentless focus on driver experience—it’s in our DNA,” said Jairam Ranganathan, SVP of Product at KeepTruckin. “We’re excited to create a best-in-class experience for carriers in Convoy’s network that gives them complete control over their data. We envision many opportunities in the weeks and months ahead to help carriers leverage their data to grow their businesses with a platform they’re already using to be compliant and with information that is already being generated. Now drivers can use that data for a competitive advantage—without any additional work besides opting in — to eliminate headaches, access more load opportunities, and make more money.”

DSV builds Europe’s largest logistics centre in Horsens, Denmark

Listen to the story (FreightComms AudioPost)

DSV plans to invest approx. 2 billion Danish Kroner in a new logistics centre, Europe’s largest with just one leaseholder.

The logistics facilities in and around the city of Horsens in Jutland, Denmark, can no longer accommodate DSV’s present and expected growth. Simultaneously, DSV wants to consolidate its warehouse and cross-docking terminals in the Horsens area to ensure increased efficiency and productivity combined with a greener profile and less CO2 emissions. Therefore, DSV will build a future-proof logistics centre on a 700,000 sqm area in Horsens.

“In DSV we focus on growing our business. As part of our growth strategy, we want to consolidate all our activities within Air & Sea, Road and Solutions in one location to ensure that our operations are efficient and that we provide the best possible solutions to our customers. Furthermore, Horsens is a strategic hub for transports between the Nordics and all other European countries. We also want to retain our many talented employees and with this new development we maintain our connection with the city,” says Simon H. Galsgaard, Managing Director for DSV Road A/S in Denmark.

Europe’s largest logistics centre

Our new logistics centre will be built on the plot next to our present facilities in Horsens. Not only will it be Denmark’s but also Europe’s largest logistics centre with only one leaseholder. The office will comprise 18,000 sqm office space, the cross-docking terminal will occupy approximately 50,000 sqm and the warehousing facilities will occupy between 200,000 and 269,000 sqm.

“To date, this is DSV’s largest construction project and we look forward to the new and huge potential it provides us with. It is part of our strategy to consolidate smaller sites and create larger, modern and future-proof facilities that will benefit both our customers and us. Among other things, the new logistics centre in Horsens will be characterized by a large degree of automated processes which ensure quick and efficient handling of large volumes,” says Simon H. Galsgaard.

The largest sale of land for industrial purposes

For the city of Horsens, this is a historically large sale of land for industrial purposes.

“As far as I know, this is the largest sale of land for industrial purposes in the history of Horsens and I am very pleased that DSV has chosen to place their new logistics centre in our municipality. Today, DSV employs around 750 people in Horsens; with the expansion the number is expected to increase to more than 1,000 – and probably even more. In addition to administrative positions, DSV offers employment within transport and warehousing. For that reason, also, I am very pleased that we have entered this agreement concerning sales of 500,000 sqm land to DSV,” says Peter Sørensen, Mayor of Horsens.

He emphasizes that the building project will mean more jobs available during the construction phase.

“Building a facility of this size will mean a lot of additional jobs available during the construction phase, something which local craftsmen and hauliers will benefit from. According to DSV’s estimates it may amount to 250 jobs,” says Peter Sørensen
